“About face,” he hears.
But he doesn’t understand it.
Can’t seem to continue, he is
Deaf to the sound.
Everything around him is so
Full of fear and heartlessness.
God, he sees, is nowhere to be found.
He turns and takes his step
In what direction, he does not know.
“Jump to it, soldier,” he hears. But,
Knowing that his soul has nowhere to go.
Lonely thoughts control him, though
Mountains of men defaced and disarmed lie
Near his boots. In and
Out he breathes. His breath is
Panting. Lost, but he
Quells his fear in the
Revelling of a past memory.
Someone out there, she waits for him,
Though he has not met her, she smiles. His kisses left
Unspent.
Victim of this daily casualty, half
Way round the world he limps.
Xtraordinary means become him as he makes his way
Yonder. Out of the fields of broken lives, out from that, the
Zoo of war.

Be well,
